"Art is life and life is transformation" ˜ Antoni Tàpies
For me, painting is transportation into another world. Each new piece is an exploration ˜ I let the canvas tell me where to go and the colors and tools are the vehicle to get there. To paint out of habit or by formula would for me be the antithesis of artistic expression.
When working on a large canvas, brush strokes are not a flick of the wrist ˜ rather a full body gesture! I step inside that world for a while, playing in the colors and bathing in the light. The canvas becomes my entire field of vision. My painting is an escape, a dizzying journey into my subconscious!
Hopefully many viewers are able to take their own journey into my paintings. While my work is generally non-subjective, I thoroughly enjoy when someone sees or feels subject matter in my paintings ˜ I'm happy that my art has the power to evoke an emotion or visual memory.
It has been said my pieces are at once expressive, fearless, energetic, luminous, moody and thought-provoking. Perhaps each piece depicts a different part of the same world. The exploration of that world seems to be my on-going quest. The journey continues to challenge and excite me!
