Andrew ‘Van’ DeGoede grew up on the Puget Sound surrounded by the natural beauty of towering mountains and opulent forests. It's no surprise that such beauty would prompt a desire to not only capture it, but to understand, and only then, to truly enjoy it.
DeGoede traveled to California to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Studio Arts with a concentration in Art History. He dedicated the final years of his undergraduate years to Alla Prima Painting under Tony Pro. Returning to Seattle to attend Juliette Aristides' Classical Atelier, Andrew gained a solid foundation in Academic Drawing and Traditional Oil Painting techniques. Working as the atelier assistant , Andrew found an unrealized ability and passion for instructing.
To complete his Master of Fine Art, Andrew returned to Gig Harbor, and now works out of a studio back on the water that originally inspired him. His work has evolved into what can be described as impressionistic realism, with an aim at capturing and revealing the beauty that lies hidden all around us.
Drop by Andrew’s water-front studio for live demonstrations throughout the weekend:
